Bob is one of the area’s outstanding pianist-interpreters of the great American Standards.
He performs as both soloist and accompanist throughout Southern California.

He is also a past president  of The Santa Monica Oceanaires of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Schooled in the fields of popular music, jazz and classical,  Bob "trains" with Jazz great Terry Trotter.

He also teaches a beginning keyboard class at USC and other venues.

His other career is as a national trainer in the field of commercial-industrial real estate.

He is author of "Creating Your Successful Career in Industrial Real Estate" and was an instructor  at UCLA for 17 years, and emeritus member of AIR.

Bob is also an avid aviator, who volunteers his time and airplane to Angel Flight, an organization that transports patients for medical treatment.

His love of the works of the great popular composers of the 20th century dovetails beautifully with this series of programs on the Golden Age of American Popular Music.

Bob is also available for playing all the great standards at private parties and other special occasions and events. ((www.boblipsonpiano.com

with some personal comments about the series from Saul

Saul has had a life-long interest in the musical theater and films and is delighted to be sharing that fascination with others by writing and delivering the commentary, with history and fascinating anecdotes, on the Golden Age of American Popular Music in this new series of programs.

He tried lyric writing – popular, country, even rock – in collaboration with a variety of young composers.  Alas, no publishing deal or record was forthcoming, so he went back to just listening to music, studying about it, and loving it.

In a career of writing and directing documentary, educational, and informational films and videos, he worked with Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Kirk Douglas, Eddie Albert, and James Earl Jones.   His clients included ABC-TV, United Airlines, Litton Industries, and various leading educational institutions and government agencies.

He also wrote comedy material for George Goebel, J.P. Morgan, and Tex Ritter (yes, the cowboy star), and wrote and performed special material at annual meetings for national organizations.

He lectured for several years at UCLA Extension and California State University Northridge.

When he’s not writing, producing , and performing for this series, Saul does volunteer work at the
Milken Jewish Community Center in West Hills.

As you watch Saul and Bob in these videos, please excuse the fact that they appear in tuxedos.  The songs and commentary are the same in the programs they now present -- just  the outfits are different.  Also, Bob brings along his keyboard but prefers to play a grand or baby grand piano, if one is available, for his instrumental solos, which are the prime attraction of these programs.  The audience sings-along on several numbers (the boys provide the song sheets), and Bob and Saul fill in with some vocals.  Everyone has a grand time.
